Chamberworks (EMM512) is a product of several years work on both composition and performance, being as close to pure classics as I will dare to venture.
As publishing library Evolution Media puts it: “Live chamber and baroque-style pieces, for solo classical guitar or intimate groups of strings, piano and clarinet. Ideal for art, history, heritage and period settings.”
I studied classical guitar over the period in question, and the pieces often emerged from my own encounters with the genre. In addition to guitar, I played the clarinet parts on my very first instrument (a Yamaha Bb), bought for me by my supportive mom and dad over 50 years ago.
Thanks to Lucia Di-Blasio Scott (violin) and Rob Jeffry (cello) for your classical bona fides.
“Requiem for a Starman” was my response to the death of my lifelong musical hero, David Bowie, written in 2016. And “Motherbird” is dedicated to my wife Ann.
It’s by no means “virtuosic”, and I doubt that it will find any concert hall audiences, but it’s very gratifying to hear it in its finished form and I am hoping for a good uptake by media content creators.
Not yet out on commercial streaming media, you can listen to the full album on BMG Production Music. But here are the initial 3 tracks:
