Today sees the release of “Reach”, the follow-up to (or continuation of) Andrew Eagle’s album “Settle Down”.
Both have been a true collaboration, an easy-flowing synthesis of Andrew’s tunes, playing and design, and my arranging and producing.
Whereas Settle Down centered on guitar pieces, Reach brings the pianistic side of AE into focus. This makes for a rather more sophisticated sound palette with denser harmony and a wider spread across genres, at times moving into “classical” and “chill” while keeping and developing the Afro jazz, blues, Latin, Middle Eastern and folk sensibilities that are all so innate to Andrew’s work.
Limited only by our imaginations and what was to hand, we pulled out all the sonic stops. From violin and cello, clarinets, saxes and melodica, saz and cittern, a swathe of percussive grooviness from cuica to orchestral bass drum, sinuous electrica, and even some arcane chanting found their way into things.
Reach has been a joy; we hope you find it as fascinating as it was to make.
