nic patonMama Dance’s follow up to Afro Zen is MD388 Afro Zen 2 – Inner Light. It features 4 of my tracks.
The less-is-more “Zen” aesthetic is all about space and transcendence. It is interesting to see how this can be combined with African values – rhythm and earthiness. I think “Inner Light” has achieved a very satisfying mix of these, not to mention a useful one.
Listen out for the latest instrument in my collection: the Indian Swarmandel. It is zither-like with the low drone strings in the foreground.
Also featuring on the album my long time friend and collaborator Ronan Skillen, using the Rav Vast tongue drum to great effect. Hear “The Garden Of Silence”.
