Myths and Legends (OLMG236) from Nashville-based Opening Line Music Group, is a collection of epic Nordic mythical soundscapes — where ancient gods, heroes, and sagas come alive through haunting instruments and timeless atmospheres.
Owner Chuck Schlacter works on a unique collaborative model, pulling in a team of composers from the ground up. For this project, Chuck asked us to “write to title”, and provided us with the initial titles, in an unusual and challenging move.
Furthermore, we were required to center our sound palettes on a library called “Dark Era” from sampling designer Eduardo Tarilonte. Featuring Dark Era and my own Nordic instruments and playing, I contributed 2 tracks, “Mistress of Dark Magic”, dark shamanic mutterings with brooding Nordic mandola and skittish fujara flute, and “The Hidden People”, a brooding and mysterious soundscape with throat singing and nyckelharpa.
